Maybe you’ve heard of it but have no idea what it is, What is Ferragosto? Well you’re not the only one. Lots of people have no idea what it is. But it is possibly one of Italy’s favorite holidays because it signifies vacation. It is the BIG summer holiday that cranks the airfare into Italy up every August to get to the beach and relax. Its origins date back to ancient Rome, where it was a festival called “Feriae Augusti,” instituted by Emperor Augustus in 18 BCE. The holiday was originally a time for rest and relaxation after the harvest.
Today, Ferragosto is a major summer celebration in Italy. It marks the peak of the vacation season, and many Italians take time off work to travel, relax, or attend festivals. The holiday is also associated with various local traditions and events, including feasts, fireworks, and religious processions. At Pasta Press, we think, it’s a great time to eat pasta! Check out our August recipe for pasta eats at your next get-together. Many businesses and public offices close for the day, and it’s common for people to spend time with family and friends.
So how are you going to celebrate the big day? We recommend eating something delicious that is really only perfect in summer time…something like, our Caprese Salad or Caprese Pasta. Juicy tomatoes, moist mozzerella, fresh basil … what’s not to love? See you soon and bring the friends & fam!
